Since April 2014, AFPGEN has been providing the compulsory insurance cover to land-based OFWs. The Company has provided insurance protection more than 28,800 OFWs and the number would grow even more with the introduction of the sea-based coverage.
OFW Insurance or The Compulsory Insurance Coverage Republic Act (RA) 10022 started its roots with its passage into law on March 8, 2010, amending RA 8042, otherwise known as the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995. Section 37-A known as Compulsory Insurance Coverage of OFWs focuses its goal on further improving the standard of protection and promotion of the welfare of migrant workers, their families and overseas Filipinos in distress and for other purposes.
OFW Sea-Based Insurance offers the following benefits that are the same as OFW Land-Based coverage:
- Death due to Accident
US$15,000.00
- Death due to Non-Accidental Causes
US$10,000.00
- Total Permanent Disability due to Accident
US$7,500.00
- Total Permanent Disability due to Non-Accidental Causes
US$7,500.00
